Thistle is a health and wellbeing charity based in Craigmillar, supporting people with disabilities and long term health conditions, including mental health difficulties such as depression, anxiety or PTSD, to live well.
Thistle offers a range of support options to help people cope with challenges and regain control.
Options include –
- one-to-one support
- lifestyle courses
- mindfulness courses
- tai chi
- physical activity including supported exercise sessions in Thistle’s Gym
- a Men’s Shed
- creative writing groups
- lifestyle courses for veterans.
Thistle’s 10-week Lifestyle courses are led by experienced practitioners and trained volunteers, many of whom have been supported by Thistle themselves. Each weekly session focusses on a different topic such as pacing, sleep or physical activity, within a safe, supportive environment. The course also offers the opportunity to reflect on some of the small steps you can take to make positive changes within your own life, all in the company of other people in similar situations.
Mindfulness courses have been designed to help people cope with the stresses of everyday life, and can be useful in coping with health conditions, chronic pain or anxiety and increase self-esteem, sense of coping and control.
Thistle holds drop-in sessions on Tuesdays from 2.00 – 4.00 pm, where anyone interested in accessing support can come along and speak to a practitioner.
