Number 6 – Autism Initiatives

Number 6 is a service for adults with High Functioning Autism (HFA) or Asperger Syndrome (AS) who live in the Lothians and the Borders.

Service Description

Number 6 provides free social opportunities and one-to-one advice and support on a range of issues.

One-to-one appointments are available, to discuss a range of issues. Appointments are limited to three sessions to develop strategies for specific situations and areas of difficulty.

Typical issues that arise in one to one appointments are:

Employment – including finding and maintaining employment. Support may be given for the application and interview process, as well as discussing difficulties that arise in the workplace.

Housing – including support with housing applications (e.g. Edindex) and advice on financial or other issues that may help to maintain a tenancy.

Benefits – including letters you have received, new applications and support for appeals/tribunals.

Problem-solving support can also be provided to help with education, mental health and relationships.

Number 6 has a computer room, pool room and library, and can be used as a drop-in during set hours. It is a safe place, where people can relax and take a break from the stresses of everyday life.

12.00 pm – 5.00 pm
(pool drop-in 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm)

On the 1st, 3rd and 4th Saturday of the month
10.00 am – 4.00 pm

There are a number of groups and activities that are run on a regular basis during the month. Groups include:

  • 5-a-side football
  • art and crafts
  • badminton
  • book
  • film
  • gaming
  • girls’ group
  • midday gourmet club
  • music group
  • photography group
  • quiz night
  • relaxation group
  • scrabble and chess group
  • video editing group
