Marie Curie Helper Service
Marie Curie Helper befriending service matches clients with a volunteer who can provide 1-1 companionship, carer respite, emotional and/or practical support to the individual and their carer for up to 3 hours per week.
The referral criteria are that the individual has a:
– terminal illness
– prognosis of 12 months or less
– over 18 years of age.
The service is free of charge and available all over the Lothian area. Individuals can self-refer, be referred by a family member/ friend/neighbour with the individuals’ permission, or can be professionally referred. We can provide the service wherever the individual resides, whether it is their own house, a care home, hospice or hospital.
Intended Client Groups:
- People with a terminal illness
This service is available to residents of all parts of Edinburgh
Applicants for this service should also meet this condition:
Over 18s only, criteria also includes diagnosed with a terminal illness and prognosis of 12 months or less
This service accepts direct self referrals.
