Health Opportunities Team (HOT) – Groups

Health Opportunities Team (HOT) aims to improve the emotional, social and sexual wellbeing of young people in South East Edinburgh.

Service Description

The service is for people aged between 12 and 25, living in Liberton/Gilmerton and Portobello/Craigmillar.

The regular drop-in sessions are friendly, comfortable spaces for young people to come and talk in confidence. Drop-in for advice, support, pregnancy testing, condoms, or just a chat. These are aimed at young people aged between 13-18.

Location: Portobello Library (1st Floor), 14 Rosefield Avenue

Time: 6.30 pm – 8.00 pm
Location: Gilmerton Community Centre, 4 Drum Street

Day: Thursdays
Time: 3.45 pm – 6.00 pm

Feel Good

Feel Good groups encourage young people aged between 12-18 to engage in physical exercise and health education activities to improve health and wellbeing and increase confidence and self-esteem.

Feel Good Young Women’s Group
Day: Mondays
Time: 3.30 pm – 6.00 pm
Location: Health Opportunities Team, 1A Queens Walk

Feel Good Young Men’s Group
Day: Fridays
Time: 1.30 pm – 4.00 pm
Location: Health Opportunities Team, 1A Queens Walk

Both groups don’t need a referral. Feel free to drop-in.

Nae Worries

Group work support for young people aged between 12-18 affected by anxiety, worry or stress covering South East and South West Edinburgh. Groups run throughout the year and referrals are accepted using the attached referral form

Social Education Plus

Social Education Plus (SE+) is a referred group for young people who may be demonstrating emotional difficulties within the school or community setting. It is for young people who can benefit from a therapeutic group work experience. It offers a flexible, needs-based approached and the model can be adapted to explore a range of issues. Health Opportunities Team (HOT) provides sexual and emotional health support for young people in South East Edinburgh and South West Edinburgh. The service is for young people aged 12-25, living in Liberton/Gilmerton and Portobello/Craigmillar.  Services include weekly drop-ins - friendly, comfortable spaces for young people to come and talk in confidence and access advice, support, pregnancy testing, STI testing, C-Card and condoms. Group work includes Feel Good, Nae Worries and SE Plus. Therapeutic one to one support is also available, including support for young people affected by their own or parental substance use.
