Community Support & Development East

Practical support is provided where needed and opportunities to thrive created.  Everyone has potential and Community Development is all about supporting people to transform lives and revitalise local communities. Our staff, volunteers and partner organisations support people collectively and individually.

The groups listed below take place on different days and at different times of the day.  They all take place in Leith with the aim of supporting individuals to build resilience and reduce isolation.

  • Job and Volunteering drop in – Get help to write a CV, find a job, look into volunteering and course opportunities
  • The Bugle creative writing group – Get support to write an article, poem or story in thematically-based creative writing sessions. Opportunities to see your work published in print or online. Artwork and photography also considered for publication.
  • The Men’s Activity Group (female staff welcome) – Join in weekly activities, learn new skills from cooking to art and meet others.
  • Community choir – An opportunity to learn and sing a variety of songs together.

Bethany Christian Centre aims, through a supported residential community, to assist individuals in their recovery from an addictive lifestyle. The Centre provides access to a selection of recovery programmes including structured group-work, one-to-one support, recreation, work activities and training opportunities. There is a focus on a Christian recovery programme,  however individuals who do not want a faith aspect are also accommodated and provided with a tailored recovery programme. Accommodation is offered to men between the ages of 18-65 with addiction problems and a desire to make changes to their lifestyle. Bethany Christian Centre is a dry house and residents must have a desire to adopt a completely alcohol and drug free lifestyle.
