6VT Youth Café
The core service is drop-in, which is open to any young person in Edinburgh. Here young people can access free internet, a coffee bar, and affordable hot meals.
Each month there is a programme of social, educational and personal development activities which young people can participate in if they wish.
Young people can also access sexual health and free condoms. 6VT Youth Cafe is a 3rd Party Reporting Centre, for people to report any crime if they don’t feel confident going to the police.
As well as this, 6VT offers various other services:
6VT’s Terrace Tots runs every Tuesday 10.30 am – 1.00 pm. Young and expectant parents and their children can come along, meet other young parents and share experiences or try out some new activities such as baby massage, cooking with kids, baby first aid, outings etc. Lunch will be provided. Individual support currently on offer.
6VT Young Victims of Crime Service
6VT Cairn Service is a confidential support service that works alongside young people aged 10-21 years old, from Edinburgh who have been a victim of crime.
The team provide services that support young people to:
- build their resilience
- boost their confidence
- increase their happiness
The team delivers services in four areas:
- One to one support – the team are there to listen and to build relationships
- Therapeutic groupwork including creativity and well being activities, peer support & emotional support
- Confidential online support – via messenger platforms or on the phone
- Practical support – including court preparation, help in attending legal & police interviews or with criminal injury claims
6VT Health and Hygiene Service (H&H)
A free service that provides health and hygiene products for young people in need aged 16 – 25 years of age. e.g sanitary items, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo, loo roll. The H&H drop-in runs every Tuesday night from 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm at 6VT Youth Cafe.
There is no need to make an appointment, just drop in and staff will get you re-stocked with essential toiletries.
You can even stay for a free drink and a toastie if you have time and have a chat with the friendly staff.
6VT Hospital Youth Team
6VT Youth Cafe delivers a youth work support service in the Emergency Dept (ED) at Little France and also provides follow on community support. This service is for any young person up to the age of 18 presenting at the Emergency Dept.
Youth workers are situated in the ED on a Friday evening between 7.00 pm – 1.00 am to be on hand for any young people requiring support in the department. Any follow up support is managed from 6VT Youth Café, at our base in the Vennel, Edinburgh.
Priority is given to those presenting with self-injuries, over-consumption of substances, and those harmed by others.
- emotional and non-clinical support to young people in need of
- support for young people in ED to positively and safely engage with the medical staff
- reduce self-injury readmission to ED by connecting young people with community supports.
Food Access Scheme
The 6VT Food Access Scheme provides vulnerable young people with a substantial and nutritious hot meal.
