Healthy Active Minds

Healthy Active Minds is a physical activity programme which aims to help people improve their mental well being.

The programme give people subsidised access to a range of physical activities such as walking, swimming, gym and fitness classes.

Instructors will support people through the initial 12-weeks of the programme,  introducing them to different activity options and offering flexible support to suit each individual. This approach is designed to help people to find out what activities they enjoy and build physical activity into their everyday lives at their own pace

The programme is for adults aged 18 years or over who have mild to moderate  stress, anxiety, depression and/or low mood. You need to be referred to Healthy; Active Minds by your GP.

The project involves:

A 1-1 consultation and support from the project staff – Once you have been referred, a Healthy Active Minds Instructor will contact you to arrange a personal consultation with you to discuss your preferred physical activities and goals. The instructor will then create a 12 week physical activity programme to meet your requirements.

A personal 12 week physical activity plan – A programme will be developed to suit your lifestyle and needs, and can incorporate different forms of physical activity. Your options include, but are not limited to, walking, swimming, gardening, gym and fitness classes. Some activities including walking, gym and swim, will be free however other activities may incur a small fee.

A Healthy Active Minds leisure card – Individuals will receive free access to Edinburgh Leisure gym, pools and fitness classes for a period of 12 weeks, and reduced pricing for the following 3 months.

We're now a leading leisure trust with a turnover of £23 million and growing, 750 employees and over 4.1 million customers a year.

Where are we?

You have probably heard of Meadowbank Sports Centre or the Royal Commonwealth Pool; Port Edgar Marina or the Braid Hills Golf Course – they are all operated by us. We run a whole range of facilities, including: sports and leisure centres, swim centres, golf courses, tennis courts, bowling greens, outdoor football pitches and, now, the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, Ratho.
