Fresh Start

Fresh Start supports people who have been homeless to establish themselves in their new homes and communities. The project delivers a range of services offering both practical and emotional support to help people resettle successfully.

Starter Packs provide new tenants with supplies to help them settle into a new home. This can include things like small household items, furniture, and food. These packs can be accessed through the Gateway service.

Hit Squads of Volunteers work alongside new tenants to help decorate their new home. The service improves the tenant’s living environment and working alongside volunteers helps increase confidence to widen social networks. This service is only available to clients with a support worker, who have moved in less than 8 weeks into their new tenancy, after a period of homelessness prior to the new tenancy.

Cooking Classes are run weekly, focusing on healthy, simple and budget friendly meals. Open to adults aged 16 and over, the courses are free, with all the ingredients provided. You will work alongside our friendly volunteers in a relaxed and informal kitchen, and you can take home what you cook, although there is an opportunity to sit down after the class and sample what you have made.  The courses begin at the start of each month, and run once weekly for 4 weeks.

A Community Growing Space in Polworth helps people gain gardening skills, life skills, and increase social networks. Volunteers work together to plan and maintain the growing space. The produce is used in the cooking classes.

Employability programmes are also available from the office on Ferry Road.
